How to Report a Scam to Australian Investigators

Australians can report any scams involving identity theft and technology such as the internet, phone calls, text messaging, email, etc. at cyber.gov.au

Go to https://www.cyber.gov.au/report, which is a page operated by the Australian Government.

Until June 2019, cybercrimes  were reported to ACORN.  Rest assured that any scams reported to ACORN will still be processed as usual.  The change of website applies only to reports after 30 June 2019.

If you have lost money to a scammer, also contact your bank.

If you are concerned that your personal information is in the wrong hands (even if it’s as simple as your date of birth, driver’s licence number and email address), visit IDcare.org for advice about what to do.

You can also report to Scamwatch.gov.au, regardless of whether you actually lost any money.  This is important so that the authorities can keep track of how each type of scam is increasing/decreasing in frequency and cost.

Remember to take screen shots of all identifying information and communications you have had with the scammer before you report their account to the communications provider/platform, and then block the account.
