Reverse Image Search with me – Ep. 2 (Francis)

This video is the first in a series that shows you how I check if a profile is fake. The first thing I do is reverse image search to check if photos are stolen. This is real-time desktop recording – watch what happens!

The key takeaways from this video are:

1. If a stranger approaches you and *any* of their photos shows up under a different profile name, block the profile and move on. You don’t need that kind of drama. You don’t need proof that it’s a scammer, and it is not rude to block.

2. Some photos have match results; others don’t. If a photo has no results, don’t assume the profile is legit. It could just be that the particular photo is not yet widely enough used to catch in the search engine, but matches might show if you search other photos and/or use a different search engine.

If a scammer has set up a network of profiles using the same photos under similar names, you might find results by searching the name – generally, and within the social media platform.

If you are already chatting to someone you suspect is a scammer, and they have given you an email address, you can even Google the email address to see if it shows up as the contact for different profiles.

3. Stolen photos on dating sites are not used by shy/insecure people hiding behind a different face or name – they are romance scammers. 100% avoid.

In any case, you do not need a reason to *not* chat with any person in social media – even if the profile is legit. You can block anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable.

The search engines I used to reverse search the photos in this video are:
google.com/images
tineye.com
yandex.com/images/
Instagram (profile search)
